Bourbon Women Florida is excited to host a virtual get together with the Head Distiller of Redwood Empire Whiskey, Lauren Patz. Lauren will give us insight into her role in the industry, and guide us on a tasting of Redwood Empire’s three core whiskeys: Redwood Empire Pipe Dream Bourbon, Redwood Empire Lost Monarch American Blended Whiskey, Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Rye.

Each attendee will receive a tasting kit with a sample of each bourbon along with a tasting mat before the call.

Redwood Empire Whiskey’s head distiller, Lauren Patz’, secret to craft distilling is passion, her skilled palate, and patience. Growing up in a winemaking family, she developed her palate from a very early age. After earning a dual degree in Classics and Japanese at Bates College, she taught English in Japan, and worked at Tcho Chocolate Factory. Then she discovered her true calling with Spirit Works, a small Sonoma County distillery, in 2013. As an apprentice distiller she fully immersed herself in the craft, swiftly working her way up to Head Distiller; managing all Spirit Works operations and product development before joining Redwood Empire Whiskey in January 2021.

Lauren has judged at the American Distilling Institute since 2017, and taught distillation seminars and workshops in the local community. Her passion and creativity help to push Redwood Empire’s innovation forward without abandoning its roots.

“I ask a lot of questions,” she says, “and I drive us further toward defining our identity on the distilling side.”
