The Best Champagne for Mimosas: Top Picks for a Perfect Brunch

When it comes to crafting the perfect mimosa, the quality of your ingredients is key. And let's be real, the star of the show is undoubtedly the sparkling wine. But with so many options, from budget-friendly proseccos to splurge-worthy Champagnes, how do you choose the sparkling wines for your brunch cocktail?

Fear not, my mimosa-loving friends. I've done the hard work and found the good stuff (along with the delightful taste-testing) to bring you my top picks for the best Champagne for a good mimosa. Whether you're looking for an affordable crowd-pleaser or a luxurious treat, I've got you covered.

La Marca Prosecco

Let's start with a tried-and-true favorite: La Marca Prosecco. This Italian sparkler is a fantastic choice for mimosas, thanks to its bright, fruity flavor and wallet-friendly price point. With hints of green apple, lemon, and honey, it pairs beautifully with equal parts of orange juice for a classic mimosa sure to please a crowd.

Raventós i Blanc Conca Del Riu Anoia Blanc de Blancs 2021

Reach for the Raventós i Blanc Conca Del Riu Anoia Blanc de Blancs 2021 for a step up in complexity and elegance. This Spanish cava is made from organic grapes and boasts a creamy texture, fine bubbles, and notes of green apple, lemon zest, and brioche and it complements the citrus juice in the mimosa. It's a bit pricier than prosecco, but trust me, it's worth every penny for a truly memorable mimosa experience.

Pierre Gimonnet 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut NV

Ready to break out the big guns? Then choose from the Champagne region. Pierre Gimonnet 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut NV is the crème de la crème of mimosa-worthy Champagnes. This grower Champagne is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes, resulting in a complex, elegant sparkler with notes of white peach, almond, and chalk. It's a splurge at $50+, but for a truly special occasion, it's the perfect way to elevate your mimosa game.

What Is the Ideal Ratio of Champagne to Juice for Mimosas?

Now that you've got your perfect bottle of bubbly, it's time to mix up those mimosas to enjoy a classic brunch. But what's the ideal ratio of sparkling wine to orange juice? As a self-proclaimed mimosa aficionado, I've experimented with countless combinations, and I've found that the sweet spot is equal parts of each.

Why equal parts, you ask? It allows the flavors of both the sparkling wine and the juice to shine through, creating a perfectly balanced cocktail. Plus, it's easy to remember when you're a few mimosas deep at brunch.

Of course, you can always adjust the correct ratio to your taste. If you prefer a boozier mimosa, go for two parts sparkling wine to one-part juice. Or, if you like a sweeter sip, reverse the ratio and use more juice. The beauty of the mimosa is its versatility – so don't be afraid to experiment and find your perfect pour.

Champagne Alternatives for Mimosas

While Champagne and prosecco are the traditional choices for mimosas, don't be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to your sparkling wine selection. Some of my favorite mimosa variations feature unexpected bubbly options.

For a tropical twist, try swapping out the orange juice for pineapple juice and pairing it with a fruity sparkling rosé. The result is a playful, pink-hued cocktail that's perfect for summer brunches.

Or, for a festive holiday mimosa, mix cranberry juice with a dry, crisp cava and garnish with a sprig of rosemary. The tart, vibrant flavors of the cranberry play beautifully off the effervescence of the cava, creating a cocktail that's as pretty as it is delicious.

And let's not forget about pomegranate juice – this jewel-toned elixir is a stunning addition to any mimosa bar. Pair it with a lively prosecco like La Marca, and you've got a mimosa that's sure to impress your brunch guests.

The moral of the story? Don't be afraid to get creative with your mimosa variations. Whether you're mixing up a classic orange juice version or experimenting with new juice and bubbly combos, the key is to have fun and enjoy the process of crafting your perfect brunch cocktail.

Mimosa Variations to Try

Listen, I get it. The classic mimosa is a thing of beauty - effervescent Champagne mingling with bright, citrusy OJ in perfect balance. But sometimes, you just gotta mix things up, ya know?

That's where mimosa variations come in, and let me tell you, the possibilities are endless. I've spent many brunches experimenting with different juice and bubbly combos, and I've stumbled upon some real winners.

Pomegranate Mimosa

First up, there's the pomegranate mimosa. This jewel-toned stunner is made by topping the best champagne for mimosas with a generous pour of pomegranate juice and a splash of Aperol for a bittersweet kick. Garnish with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds for a festive touch.

Blushing Mimosa

Next, we have the blushing mimosa. This pretty-in-pink sipper features pineapple juice and a dash of grenadine for a sweet, tropical twist. Pro tip: Use a dry Champagne to balance out the sweetness of the pineapple.

White Christmas Mimosas

But my all-time favorite? The white Christmas mimosa. This holiday-inspired libation combines the best champagne for mimosas with white peach puree, a hint of orange liqueur, and a splash of cranberry for a festive blush. It's like sipping on a boozy peach cobbler, and I am here for it.

The moral of the story? Don't be afraid to get creative with your mimosas. Swap the OJ for your favorite juice, add a liqueur for extra depth, or garnish with fresh fruit for a pop of color. The mimosa possibilities are endless, my friends.

Tips for Making the Perfect Mimosa

Alright, so you've got your Champagne picked out and your juice ready. Now, let's talk tips for crafting the perfect mimosa, shall we?

Chill Your Ingredients

First things first, make sure everything is well-chilled. There's nothing worse than a lukewarm mimosa, trust me. Pop your Champagne and juice in the fridge at least a couple hours before serving.

Choose the Right Champagne

When it comes to choosing the best Champagne for mimosas, I always opt for a dry or extra-dry variety. Brut Champagne adds that extra bit of sharpness and balances perfectly with the sweetness of the juice. And don't feel like you have to break the bank - a good bottle of cava brut or prosecco will do the trick just as well as pricey Champagne.

Pour the Bubbly First

Now, here's a hotly debated topic: What goes in the glass first, the bubbly or the juice? I'm team Champagne-first all the way. Why? Pouring the heavy juice on top of the lighter Champagne helps preserve those precious bubbles. And we all know it's those fine bubbles that make a mimosa so dang delightful.

Don't Forget the Garnish

Last but not least, don't neglect the garnish. A slice of fresh citrus or a couple of berries can take your mimosa from basic to bougie in an instant. Plus, it's a surefire way to impress your brunch guests.

See? Crafting the perfect mimosa is easy peasy when you've got the right tips and tricks up your sleeve. Now go forth and mix up a round of the best mimosas your crew has ever tasted. Cheers.
