Understanding Non-Alcoholic Wine
Non-alcoholic wine isn't just grape juice. It undergoes similar fermentation and vinification processes as regular wine, but with the alcohol removed through methods like reverse osmosis, vacuum distillation, or spinning cone columns.
This results in a product similar in aroma and flavor compounds to traditional wine. Sommelier

Just like traditional wines, non-alcoholic wines benefit from ideal storage methods to maximize their lifespan.
Factors Affecting Non-Alcoholic Wine Storage
Several factors, like temperature, humidity, and sunlight, affect non alcoholic wines in the same manner as alcoholic wines, this is especially true with opened wines.
Temperature
Temperature is critical for storing non-alcoholic wines. Both white and red wines suffer in high heat, altering their aromas and flavors.
For successful long-term storage and non-alcoholic wine preservation, aim for a consistent, cool temperature between 55-60°F (13-14°C), ideally in a wine cooler or fridge.
Serve non-alcoholic wine slightly warmer. Remove them from the fridge a little early. Red wine is best served between 54˚F–64°F (12˚C-18˚C) while white wines should be served chilled, between 45°F–54°F (7°–12°C).
Light
Direct sunlight or strong artificial light can degrade non-alcoholic wine. UV rays damage delicate aromas and flavors, a phenomenon sometimes called “lightstruck,” especially in clear glass bottles.
Color
What role do Anthocyanins play in wine? ... More and aroma are usually the first characteristics affected by light. Keep bottles out of direct light to help prevent flavor degradation in your alcohol-free wines.
Humidity
Excessive humidity can also negatively impact non-alcoholic wine, potentially leading to off-putting odors and aromas. Aim for 50%-70% humidity for long-term storage to ensure the perfect non-alcoholic wine preservation
How to Store Non-Alcoholic Wine
Non-alcoholic wines lack the natural sulfates produced during fermentation and aging in traditional wines, which influences non-alcoholic wine preservation and how bottles can be stored. This difference is key to maintaining the quality of your non-alcoholic drinks, affecting how you manage both opened and unopened bottles.
Short-Term Storage
Store unopened bottles in a cool, dark pantry or cupboard. Refrigerate opened non-alcoholic wine and consume within 3-5 days.
While the old wives' tale about a teaspoon in an opened bottle preserving wine is largely a myth, non-alcoholic wines start to lose their pleasant flavors after about four days.
Long-Term Storage
For unopened bottles that you want to keep for long-term storage and maintain the correct non-alcoholic wine preservation, consider these options:
| Storage Location | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Wine Fridge/Cooler | Ideal temperature and humidity control. Protects from light and vibration. | It can be expensive. Takes up space. |
| Wine Cellar | Naturally cool and dark environment. Can store large quantities. | Requires proper ventilation and humidity control. May not be suitable for all climates. |
| Cool, Dark Cupboard | Convenient and cost-effective. | Temperature and humidity can fluctuate. There is less protection from light and vibration. |
Always store opened bottles upright. Storing bottles horizontally, while space-saving, can be detrimental once the wine has been opened.
Tips for Serving Non-Alcoholic Wine
Chilling enhances the flavors and qualities of non-alcoholic wines, similar to traditional wines. Serve white non-alcoholic wines chilled, around 45°F–54°F (7°–12°C). Reds are best enjoyed at their typical serving temperature.
Aerating some non-alcoholic wines can also enhance their flavors. Decanting
